The Day the Desert Breathed
August 12, 2026
The day arrived carrying too much.
Too many numbers.
Too many decisions.
Too many things asking for an answer before she had finished asking herself how she felt.
She had spent the morning moving pieces around, trying to make sense of what could be controlled and what could not.
Then the water stopped.
And for a moment, even the simplest things became complicated.
But the desert knows something about waiting.
It knows that dry seasons are not forever.
So the clouds gathered, and the first drops fell.
She opened the door.
The rain came in carrying the scent of earth remembering itself.
Petrichor.
A word for the moment when the ground says, “I have been waiting for this.”
The thunder rolled, not as a warning, but as a voice passing overhead.
The storm did not erase the problems waiting inside.
It simply reminded her that even heavy skies eventually move.
And for a little while, she stood there listening.
